We have combined the Montessori philosophy with the Funshine Express curricula at this school. The name has been changed to Learn, Play, Grow Childcare. The Montessori influence is still very evident in the classrooms and the basic Montessori lessons are still taught. We have added the Fireflies and Buttercups curricula to give the children a taste of how lessons will feel when they enter the “big kids” school.
Extracurricular enrichment is available weekly at the school through Debbie’s Dance. These activities can help students develop self- confidence and increase awareness of their physical being. These activities will improve coordination skills and develop muscles.
Meet Director Theresa Unger
My name is Theresa Unger and I am the Director at Learn Play Grow. I began at Weinacker’s Montessori School in 2016 as a Preschool teacher at our Hillcrest location and then became the assistant director in 2017. I have worked in the child care field for over 15 years. I received my Associates Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix.
My goal as Director is to ensure your children are provided a safe, loving environment in which they can grow and learn as they develop throughout their early childhood. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your children as they explore their childhood years.
Meet the Teachers
Diane Eddlemon
Hi, my name is Diana Eddlemon. I am currently the Lead Preschool teachers at Learn Play Grow. I started working at this location in 2018 as a preschool assistant.
I graduated from Heritage Christian School in 2004. I worked briefly at Weinacker’s Montessori School on Dauphin Street in 2008. I taught K4 in 2011 in a traditional private school. I have also educated my four children for seven and a half years.
I love teaching the preschool years because they are so full of wonder and excitement! It’s such a joy to watch preschoolers learn!
In my free time I love to spend time with my husband and kids, crochet, read, drink coffee, and love on my 2 cats.
Bobbie Dixon
Hi, my name is Bobbie Dixon. I began working at Weinacker’s Montessori in December of 2015. Currently I am the Toddler lead teacher, although I have worked with every age group at some point. In 2014 I graduated from The University of South Alabama with a BA Degree. In 2017 I received my Infant/Toddler Montessori teaching diploma. I enjoy spending time with my fur babies and my family when I am free.
Dornita Allen
My name is Dornita Allen and I am currently the primary infant teacher. I graduated from Murphy High School in 2010 and attended Bishop State Community College for two years. I recently became a mother to a beautiful baby girl. I started working for Weinacker’s in 2011 at the Midtown location as the infant room assistant and moved to the University location in 2014. I received my American Montessori Infant/Toddler certification in 2014. I chose this career because I enjoy watching the children grow and develop into their own little individuals and reaching their milestones along the way.
Allise Norton, Assistant Director
Ms. Allise moved to Learn Play Grow in June 2021 as the Assistant Director. She has over 15 years of experience in the childcare field and at one point she owned and operated her own facility in Baldwin County. Her love of children and drive for perfection make her the perfect fit with Ms. Theresa.
