Dr. Deadra Powe, Director
I retired from Baldwin County Public School System after 30 years of service where I served as a middle and high school principal. I have Masters Degrees in education, leadership and English. In addition, I earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership. I have also served as an Adjunct English Professor at The University of Mobile, Faulkner State Community College and Bishop State Community College. In addition, I also conducted teacher education classes for the Alabama State Department of Education. Educating children and assisting teachers is truly my passion and I have found a new home at Weinacker’s Montessori School.
Meet the Teachers
Rebecca Kersten
I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Spring Hill College and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Alabama. While at Spring Hill I completed two years of elementary education courses and tutored for all four years in local elementary schools. While completing my Master’s degree, I worked at Alta Pointe as a MR Case Manager with adults and eventually children with Mental Retardation. After receiving my Master’s degree, I worked with Penelope House Family Violence Center as Night staff and Transitional Living Community Assistant. During this time I worked a lot with the children in the shelter and transitioning out into the community and was introduced to Montessori education and began seeking employment and training in Montessori education. Having come from an education and psychology background, I found the Montessori teaching method’s approach of hands-on learning and self-directed activities to be the teaching environment that I had searching for. I have been employed in Weinacker’s Montessori School since 2015 and have received training and experience in working with infants, toddlers, and preschool. I love working with preschool and watching the children learn and grow as they prepare for elementary school!
Alisha Williams - Toddler Lead Teacher
Hello, my name is Alisha Williams. I am a licensed massage therapist. However, I have been working with children for over ten years and plan to continue on my current path. I'm a single parent and with one child who I love so dearly. I grew up in Daphne Alabama. I'm the youngest of 2 siblings. I started out babysitting for some of my church family and I knew it was something I loved. I adjusted my career to childcare and teaching children. I love seeing their unique talents and personalities. When not a work, I love spending time with friends and family. We like to go to the parks to explore.
Tomeka Carson
I am the Lead infant teacher at Lake Forest Weinacker's Montessori School where I have been employed since 2019. I have raised two successful and respectful children. I am a Memaw and have a host of nieces and nephews whom I have influenced and guided for quite some time. I truly feel children are blessings from God And the future for all we hold dear. That is why I chose to become a teacher at Weinacker’s and a light for all kids to shine.
